The Masquerade of the Eternities: Dramatic Mask and Makeup Tutorial

20121231-035121

Darlings, Halloween may be a long 261 days off, but Valentine’s Week on The Year of Halloween is as good an excuse as any for the first makeup tutorial of the year!  For those of you looking for a particularly dramatic or mysterious look for an event this week, nothing could be more simple than a masquerade mask, elegantly disguising your identity while bringing attention to your mouth and eyes.  To enhance the mask’s effect and compensate for the increased shadow around your eyes, you need a makeup look that strongly enhances the eye area, balanced with a clean base and simple lips.

I particularly like this tutorial by Michelle Phan, as it beautifully emphasizes the eye, while still looking elegant when your mask is removed – perhaps as a dramatic reveal at the stroke of midnight?  If you can’t get your hands on a mask, see below for an easy DIY tutorial to quickly design your own.

  1. The mask can stay on 🙂

  2. So pretty! I’m terrible at eye makeup. Either that or I don’t wear it enough so that when I do it, it looks overdone to me.

  3. I was so sure this was going to be a tutorial by Acadia………..

  4. You do know why eye makeup became desirable to wear, right? 😉
