Kittens, I know a certain generation of you grew up loving Spongebob, that quirky porifera in short pants that first appeared to shape childhoods from under the sea in 1999. As delightfully innocent as Spongebob Squarepants and his aquatic pals appeared to be, leave it to the internet to decide that something more sinister might be at play.
Yes, the theme song to Spongebob Squarepants slowed down 800% (didn’t anyone try 666%??) is, in fact, a horrifying mishmash of dissonant sounds and tones that could easily stand in as the soundtrack to the Russian borehole long rumored to be a gateway to hell. You might want to save this one to play on repeat for your Halloween home haunt – just don’t be surprised if you find yourself with a lot of leftover candy this year!

I think MOST of the weirdo cartoons on cartoon network are just creepy, hyper-actively super-charged, and the characters are really odd-looking. I’ll go ahead and take your word for the Spongebob song…never did see the attraction of that bizarre ‘toon.
The progression of what is the norm in cartoons ostensibly aimed at children is completely fascinating. Perhaps you have to grow up with a character to really embrace it? I can think of some 80’s cartoons that were pretty wack-a-doo in retrospect.
Ah yes. My girls grew up with Smurfs and Power Rangers. I was a groovy kid who watched Captain Kangaroo and HR Puffinstuff… Liddsville, lol.
And who could forget New Zoo Review…I like the “shows” vs cartoons most of the time…except Bugs Bunny and their ilk..those were my faves.
