You might not know this, but I used to dig graves. Not with a shovel and a lantern in the middle of the night, but I really did dig them. We used a Bobcat but we finished them all by hand. I also made pizzas but that is off topic so stop asking me about it!
The cemetery is old and big. I had sixty thousand people under me! (ha). And one thing that always stuck with me were the stones from the late 19th century. Most of them had this poem on them that was really mean. I mean, it is hard for a dead person to be mean but how would YOU feel if you saw a gravestone that said:
Listen all you passers by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now soon you will be
Prepare for death and follow me
Jerks!

No but I used to finish at the graveyard, go to my friends house to shower, then go make pizzas all night in the bar. YAY ENGLISH DEGREE!
This is my favorite feature on TYoH. I’m a huge fraidy-cat when it comes to horror movies (I can read anything, though) and I love the little snippets of shiver.

This is actually pretty great and something I would put on my stone. I was there like you…now I’m here and you will be too…hmm I think i will do this instead. A bit more modern.
Plus you would pay less because you wouldn’t need as big a stone. Nice work.

I find the whole practice of burying dead and visiting them in cemetaries morbid. Funerals creep me out. Its all a show to make the living feel better. Fuck that…dead is dead. Burn my meat suit, smoke whatever resin you can scrape out of my skull and have an awesome party talking about my shenanigans.

You really thought that old epitaph was ‘mean?’ Actually, what it really hopes to impart is that the living ought take care to live and live well for once life ends, this (grave) is all that there is. Its occupant says “I was alive like you, never thinking of the end. Perhaps not appreciating each day I had in life. Then it was over. Now this is where I shall dwell.”
I like the biting and sarcastic tombstone that surely leaves the survivors feeling guilty…”I Told You I Was Sick”. That to me is mean. LOL!
