Happy 2014 everyone! A new year brings unfulfilled resolutions, fresh starts, and most importantly, a brand new convention schedule to plan for!! January starts a little slow, well.. a lot slow, until the very last weekend of the month. There are two conventions in particular that are worth a shout out. Unless you live under a rock you are familiar with the Wizard World Convention franchise. This group of crazy con-men and con-women host conventions all over the country. These are not small gatherings either. They get some of the biggest names in the business to show their faces and sign our crap!
Held at the Oregon Convention Center January 24-26th, this convention boasts just about every genre imaginable. The man, the myth, the chin, Mr. Bruce Campbell will make an appearance complete with autographs, photo ops and a panel. Trust me, I have been to one of his panels and they are one of those “bucket list” items people talk about. So do it if you can. Make it one of those resolution things. You won’t be disappointed, just maybe a little exhausted after.
The man who gave nails down a chalkboard creepiness a run for its money will also be on hand for autographs and photos. He is one that I have yet to meet and can not wait for that time to come! I have a few psychiatrist bills I need to send his way.
AMC’s The Walking Dead fans will not be left behind because the eye candy that is Norman Reedus will be on hand as well as Laurie Holden and Michael Rooker. The three of them together is bound to bring out Reedus’ silly side….. and with that there is typically silly string. So be prepared. For a full list of happenings and tickets visit Wizard World Website.
If you go I expect you to send me a full report and a box of Kleenex because surely I will cry about all of the awesomeness I missed.
There is another Con happening several states away in Texas (Houston to be exact) beginning on January 23rd and running through January 28th. This is not your grandmothers convention. Held at the George Brown Convention Center this event is, well, there is a lot to say about this convention so let’s just put it in their words…
What is HAuNTcon?
“HAuNTcon is an acronym for the Haunted Attraction National Tradeshow and Conference, an expo and convention “Designed by Haunters, for Haunters” of every age and level of experience. HAuNTcon brings people who love Haunted Houses, Halloween and scaring people together for a fun-filled four days and nights Haunt Tours, Education, Tradeshow and Networking, rounded out by a Haunted Garage Sale and the amazing annual Costume Ball.”
There are SO MANY cool happenings at this convention. They have over 40 hours of haunting education classes!!! I mean seriously? They teach you how to scare the crap out people?! Where do I sign up? There are also trade shows, a garage sale (!!!), haunt tours, hands on workshops and a costume ball. This is probably the only time I wished l lived in Texas. For a complete list of the happenings and ticket prices go to their website.
January may start out slow and dreary but it promises to wrap up nicely. Happy Con-ing everyone! (and seriously….I want pictures!)

Bruce Campbell is just outstanding in panel. I would love to see Robert Englund, but since this fan can never, ever be topped, I’m not sure what’s left to be said.
Ohhh kitteh…
Choo – can I have a ride to all of these?
