Something Wicked This Way Comes: October Site News

Darling readers, October is finally here and we are bursting with news around TYoH! First, you might have noticed our elegant new site design, complete with graveyard-inspired logo. The winged skull is a common fixture of 17th century gravestone iconography in the American northeast, and I think it’s a lovely fit for our little corner of the internet, as well.

Next, the first of our Halloween guest writers have begun to appear, beginning last month with cookbook author Amelia Fazio’s lovely pumpkin creations, and infamous horror lover/advice columnist Doc Splatter. Don’t forget to like the good (?) doctor on Facebook to win a signed edition of Doc Splatter’s own Ominous Omnibus.  Speaking of contests, we’ll be launching details of our annual online Halloween Costume Contest as we get closer to Halloween, but in the meantime, check out last year’s costume entries for some October inspiration.

This month we’ll be gallivanting around town in person to attend Halloween events, including tomorrow’s grand opening of Dark Harbor at the haunted Queen Mary, and online to find all sorts of spooky new treats for you little deviants. I’m particularly digging Videogram’s funky throwback Halloween track Camp Blood by site friend Magnus Sellergren, which will be going  on my Halloween playlist this year (no doubt to the delight of all my fellow Friday the 13th fans out there).

As you can see from the new layout, our massive archive of Halloween craft, makeup, and costume tutorials is now easier than ever to access, as well as the back catalog of horror movies, short films, spooky stories, and more. But don’t think we’re planning to rest on our bloody laurels this year! Check back to The Year of Halloween for a new post every day in the month of October, from featured horror fiction of yesteryear to fresh new costume ideas for Halloween 2014. We’ll also be hitting our 100th horror short film this month, and have a special Friday Night Features event planned for Halloween itself. Until then, kittens, happy hauntings!
